Loansome Doc is a document ordering feature of PubMed® and the NLM Gateway.  It is available through the Ocasek Medical Library to NEOUCOM/NEOUCOP faculty, staff and students.

Loansome Doc enables PubMed and NLM Gateway users to order documents found in MEDLINE®. This service is available to on-campus faculty through NEOUCOM's Ocasek Medical Library. A user can order articles from a list of citations retrieved from PubMed and the NLM Gateway by sending requests electronically to the library for the full-text documents. Every attempt will be made to return the requested item to the requestor in electronic format.

How it works:

Perform a literature search using PubMed.  For best results access Pubmed through the library's homepage.  This access point will allow you to view documents that may be immediately available electronically.

From the Library Homepage, select NEOLINK, then click on “Medical Databases and Web Resources”. Choose “PubMed (Natl Lib of Medicine)."

Perform your search, then “display” the documents in the ”abstract” format to see if they have an  icon indicating that they are available electronically (i.e., they are able to be read or printed immediately).
    1. If they are not available electronically, click the check box to the left of the articles you want to order.
    2. From PubMed select "Order" from the  pull down box.
See the link below for more information about Loansome Doc and to  register. You must be an active member of the NEOUCOM/NEOUCOP community to use this service.

RUSH or URGENT requests should NOT be submitted through Lonesome Doc or other request methods. Please call extension 6600 and speak to a library staff member to receive an urgent delivery.

Costs

Occasionally some costs are incurred when it necessary to obtain an article from another library.  These costs are passed on to the requestor.  The library will confirm that you want to purchase articles before ordering them.

WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, US Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. (37 C.F.R. 201.14)
